Altenew 11th Anniversary Blog Hop - Day 2! PLUS Giveaway (over $3,600 in Total Prizes)

Click here to see the Altenew Blog Hop Post!

I am so honored and proud to be a part of Altenew's 11th year Anniversary Hop! For my project for this hop, I wanted to pay homage to the Altenew name by taking an old technique and making it new again. I chose to do a bright and colorful take on the good old' "Blackout" technique. The blackout technique is where you color in the image from the de-bossed side of an embossed cardstock panel then rub over it with black ink. If you have never tried this technique, GO DO IT NOW!!! It is so much fun!!

My project started with a panel of 80lb classic crest solar white cardstock cut to 4 1/2" x 6", just big enough to cover the image on the Sweet Peruvian Zinnias 3D embossing folder while leaving some space for the sentiment. And like I said, in this technique, you flip the embossed panel over and color in the image on the de-bossed side. I used Artist Markers. The super cool thing about this technique is, if you slip and go outside of the de-bossed area, the boo-boos will be covered up when you drag the ink pag over it in the end!! So, you don't have to be an Artist Marker Picasso for this! Wahoo!! (You guys know me, you know I am always finding the loopholes for ya lol.)

Below is the process! I hope you enjoy learning this technique and if you try it yourself, tag me on Instagram @scrappystampthefunup and tag @Altenewllc we would love to see your work!!! Have fun hopping along and good luck with the Giveaway!!

My ultimate pro-tip for you when using alcohol markers is to make a swatch of the colors you want to use for your particular project so you can see how they blend together and what order you'll want to use them in. This will save you precious brain cells, I promise!! Below is the swatch for this project:

Next, I embossed my panel of cardstock, and yes, I lightly spritzed it with water first. I do this EVERY time I emboss to get a crisper impression and of course to minimize and or prevent any possible cracking of the paper fibers. Then, flip it over and that is the de-bossed side I'll be using in the project.

The next photos show the order in which I colored the petals. I started with the petals and were in the background of the flowers, so I used my two darker purples on these. Then I moved to the next set of petals that were closer and used my medium purples on those, then I used my lighter purples on the leaves closest. I then went back with the medium and dark purples to add depth to the petals. I did this with the stems and green parts and the yellow centers as well.

Next, is the actual technique. Not only did I choose a bright fresh blue in Pool, but then I went over it with the darker Teal Tempest which added drama and depth. You take your ink pad and drag it flat over the panel, in one direction across the panel, then flip the panel around and repeat. This is the secret to this technique. Drag the ink pad, pick it up, start at the same side and drag again. Don't scrub the ink pad back and forth, dragging it is the key.

Look at that glow!!

I took a 5"x7" classic crest solar white 80lb cardstock base in landscape and used Just Green ink to drag across that from left to right. When I do textural inking, I like to add it in different directions to create interest and texture. Another pro-tip: clean off your craft mat between ink dragging!

I attached the pretty panel directly to the base and added the sentiment on foam tape.

April Inspiration Station Blog Hop Challenge!

Below is this month's inspiration challenge picture, and below that is my interpretation.

(To join the challenge, visit the Inspiration Station at the link below!)

First of all, I am always thrilled when I see a change to use Tim Holtz Paper Dolls, so the woman and child in the inspiration photo really inspired me. But also, I love the pale blue and pinks of the background, and I really wanted to play with shades of those colors.

First, I auditioned my paper dolls and shades of pinks and blues:

I really wanted to add layers of cozy texture in the blue and pink shades, to play up on the feels the inspiration photo has, so I turned to my Anna Griffin concentric dies. I have no idea the names of the ones I used, or even if they are still available, sorry!

Having narrowed down my paper dolls and papers, I chose another Anna Griffen die for the sentiment, which I thought was perfect for the feeling of the inspiration photo. I wanted to set it off, to give some prominence to it, but at the same time, I didn't want to take away from the paper dolls, nor the soft layers of the card front. So, vellum solved the problem.  I had a remnant of vellum with small white swirls all over it that I think added another element of cozy to the card.

I used glitter glue in pink to accent the fringe die cut and the pink doily layer, and I used crystal glitter glue to enhance the paper doll's dresses.

I just hit the fringe around the doily layer, so I didn't cover up the soft white hearts.

I also added the crystal glitter glue to the sentiment.

When I use vellum, I only use my Tombow glue stick anymore, to adhere things to it. It sticks great and you can't see it thru the vellum. Highly recommended!!

I attached the sentient to the front of the vellum, then flipped it over and smeared the glue stick on the back of where the sentiment was. I then fitted it and trimmed it down to fit across the card front.

I added foam adhesive to the paper dolls and then layered the whole thing up. I positioned the little girl paper doll, so it looked like she was sitting on the mother's knee.

I hope you found some inspiration from my take on this month's inspiration photo! If you did and you try any of the techniques I used, tag me on social media @scrappystampthefunup I'd love to see your work! See you next month!

Happy Halloween scrap peeps!  I hope you have all been scrapping some fabulous treats!    Here are a few I came up with for this Halloween.  They are all very sweet but with no chance of getting a cavity lol.

I have been hoarding Halloween stickers for a few years...didn't want to waste them on something but at the same time realized they were being wasted by not using them.   So, cricut to the rescue!

I never like to copy an idea nearly identically but when I saw this guy on pinterest, I couldn't resist.

My take on mass produced cards.  Used spellbinders dies to cut the frames on these.  Probably got Popeye forearms from the process, but so worth it!.   The spider is hand drawn but the other details were embellishments I have been hanging onto for awhile.

Well, I hope the great pumpkin is good to you all this year!  Here is my spell for you all:

Sending you witchy wishes and spooks unseen for a very happy Halloween!   EEEEEeeeeheheheheh!

Ok, finally, I am finally going to finally unveil my line of cards featuring images from passionfruitimages.com   I love their tarot card images...all cards of the major arcana are represented in ancient detail and in what looks to me like French script.   For us pagans, we know that the major arcana in the tarot represent aspects in life we cannot avoid:  I call them the fate cards because when they appear, you need to stop, take head, understand and learn how to move on, etc....so, it has been my personal challenge and dream to develop a line of cards by a pagan and for pagans.  I tried to keep these simple in construction, but each one features three cards that when read together will give the recipient insight into your meaning behind the cards.  Also, the colors and embellishments coincide with the tarot message as well.  enjoy!   tell your friends!

Hello scrap peeps!  Finally done sewing for vintage base ball, and I am proud to say my woman's team was 2 and 0 at the Ohio Cup tournament so yeay!!!    Now I am trying to rebuild my card stash so I don't have to be interrupted in the middle of scrapbooking to throw a card together at the last minute.  Here's my method for mass producing awesome cards in a hurry.

 Gather your supplies:

Card forms, corner rounders, sentiments, a few blings, some random decoupage images/die cuts and decorative frames.

Take a pad of ugly double sided papers. Yes, you know you have ugly double sided papers-the stack that was to ugly to do anything with but to good a clearance deal to pass up ;)  Cut your card forms (I base mine on the envelope I cut with my cricut so it's roughly a 6.5x5 inch card.  Easily goes thru the mail with one stamp if you keep the embellishments to a minimum-which you want to do for mass production.

So, cut all your card forms (and now would be a wise time to sign the back). Pile them up and corner round them.  I use a bunch of different styles.  Next layout the decorative framings-I use my Spellbinder nestabilities for these and attach the with spray adhesive so there is no glue gushing out from the details.  Add your images/die cuts inside the frames-glue stick is fine for these unless they have lots of scrolls-sometimes I use my xyron sticker maker.  Stick on the sentiments-these can have a tendancy to blend into the background so once they are placed I run a thin edge of metallic marker around them.  On these I used copper for the aged look. Add a bling dot on the sentiment and poof, you are done.

Simple right?  Well....here's your tip for the day:   to really give them some artistic "pop", pair black and white or sepia and cream images with wildly bold card forms and neutral frames or monochromatic card forms and bright glittery frames.  The neutrals pull the contrast together easily and will look like you needed a degree in fine art to do these cards.  And of course add party hats!  If you want to see how to make the party hats, send me a message :)

Have fun!

Hello scrap peeps!   yes, I know I know, it's been awhile.....yes, I am still working on my cards!  As most of you know, I am involved with historical re-enacting in the form of vintage base ball.  Once summer starts, it really is hard to find time for anything but vintage base ball.  Well, with the season winding down, and the fact that my sewing machine bit it so I can't finish my latest vintage style dress, I am working on replenishing my every day card bin.  In doing so, I have come up with a helpful little tip for ya.

I like to use double sided paper for my everyday cards-saves a lot of time when you need a card on the fly because it's already decorated and you just have to add a sentiment or a doo-dah here and there.  Well, sometimes you get a piece of paper in your stack that has a really cool, vibrant or "loose floating" pattern.  When I say "loose floating"  I am referring to randomly scattered large flowers or clouds or the like.  So, you don't necessarily want to just cut your rectangle card shape from edge to edge, you want to maximize the "loose floating" pattern.  Here's the solution!

On my self healing cutting matt, I have marked here and there the sizes of cards I like to work with.  I took a piece of vellum and cut it to the same markings.  This gives me a window to be able to move around the face of the paper, trace cutting lines and maximize my "floating pattern".  Try it!!   You will love it!!

xoxo
talk to ya shortly!!
